A.Vogel Museum: A Journey into the World of Medicinal Plants

7th June 2024 - The new A.Vogel Museum will open its doors on June 16, 2024, in Teufen, AR. This interactive exhibition invites visitors on a sensory journey of discovery. Starting in 1937, Alfred Vogel cultivated a medicinal plant garden in Teufen. His message as a pioneer of natural medicine: A healthy life is possible – through balanced nutrition, the use of plant-based medicine, and living in harmony with nature. At the same idyllic location, with a stunning view of Mount Säntis, the newly constructed A.Vogel Museum will welcome visitors in mid-June. The modern and immersive exhibition concept allows visitors to follow in the footsteps of the company founder, exploring and expanding their knowledge. Andy Suter, CEO of A.Vogel AG, explains: “This fresh, new approach inspires individual discovery. It aligns with our founder, who was a man of science.”

Listen, Smell, Feel While there are historical artifacts to admire – such as Alfred Vogel's travel suitcase and typewriter – many exhibits can be touched and explored. “We present the content in an experiential way, aiming to inspire wonder in visitors,” says Barbara Mutzbauer, Creative Director at Aroma, the agency responsible for planning and implementing the new museum. The creators use digital technology purposefully: Echinacea, for example, explains in its own words why it’s a powerful shield for health. The atmosphere is designed to be approachable, inviting, and friendly. All illustrations for the various applications were even hand-drawn.

In addition to Alfred Vogel’s life, one section of the museum is dedicated to herbal medicine. Visitors can "harvest" knowledge by tearing off the profile of their favorite plant to take home and explore in nature, their garden, or on hikes. For instance, plantain soothes insect bites and helps stop bleeding from small wounds. At an altitude of nearly 1,000 meters, more than 120 medicinal plants grow in Teufen. Naturally, the museum also showcases the internationally renowned and successful A.Vogel brand. Video presentations by employees provide fascinating insights into the company. A Trip to Appenzellerland Is Worthwhile “With the museum’s expansion of our visitor center, we are continuing the long tradition of health tourism in our region,” says Andreas Frey, Managing Director of Appenzellerland Tourism. The Appenzellerland has a rich tradition of spas and medical treatments. And for those looking for an additional reason to visit Teufen: The new museum is located along one of the most popular hiking trails, the Eggen-Höhenweg, offering breathtaking views of Mount Säntis and Lake Constance.
